Why you need a wireless survey

Wireless site surveys provide detailed information that addresses the site's radio frequency coverage. Whether you’re upgrading an office space, setting up a home network, lecture hall, or warehouse, professional site surveys are a vital first step towards superior Wi-Fi coverage and performance.

Our Services

1. Services

Predictive Site Survey

The goal of a predictive site survey is to determine where to place APs for the best performance throughout the area.  Predictive Surveys are often requested during the construction phase of the building process or prior to the WLAN installation.  This survey is helpful for budgeting purposes.

We use virtual network tools designed to predict how wireless signals propagate through a space. The input is a detailed set of blueprints and information on the type of wireless equipment proposed, such as which Access Point brand and model the business will use.  The more information provided on wall, door, and glass materials the more accurate the software is at generating a Wireless Access Point design and heatmap.

Why request a Predictive survey?

Request this survey when working on a budget for a site or building which is not yet built.  Our predictive survey can also help generate cost estimates for redesigns.  Last but not least, request a predictive survey when onsite visits aren’t possible, time does not permit an onsite visit, or if its not in your budget to fund a proper AP-on-a-Stick (APoS) survey.

Passive Site Survey

A “wireless passive survey” is a method of assessing a wireless network by simply listening to the existing signals broadcast by nearby devices, without actively joining or interacting with the network, essentially recording signal strength and noise levels from different access points to analyze coverage and potential interference issues.

We walk your location while scanning specific channels and existing WiFi networks in order to measure signal strength, noise levels, and interference.

We provide a specified report on all signals at each location. This includes the installed network and signals from neighboring sites or other devices that generate noise at wireless frequencies. We also conduct spectrum analysis at the same time.

Why Request a Passive Survey?

A Passive survey will provide the business or end users with real-time data on the existing wireless networks performance.  It will identify areas where signal is weak, bandwidth is inadequate, or interference exist.  It can answer important questions such as why zoom calls are dropping, or video streams are freezing.

3. Services

Active Site Survey

An active wireless site survey is a process where a surveying device actively connects to a wireless network and measures signal strength, performance metrics like throughput, and other network data while actively transmitting and receiving data, allowing for detailed analysis of the network’s current performance and potential issues within the live environment; essentially, it’s a real-time assessment of a wireless network by actively interacting with it.  Active surveys are often used to identify specific issues within a live network, like weak signal areas, interference sources, or overloaded access points.

Why request an Active Survey?

Identify Interference

It helps detect interference from other wireless networks, appliances, or devices that might be impacting signal quality

Optimal AP placement

By analyzing signal strength across a location, you can determine the best locations to place access points to maximize coverage and minimize dead zones

4. Services

AP-On-A- Stick Survey

An AP-on-a-Stick (APoS) survey is a method of temporarily staging APs at deployment height utilizing a tripod or other mounting options in order to validate your predictive design before a full site deployment. APoS surveys identify the RF signal propagation characteristics of the environment while providing additional confidence your proposed design will work as planned, reducing the need for costly AP location changes, and validating you have the correct number of APs in your design.

Why request an AP-On-A Stick Survey?

Validate AP and Antenna Performance

Performing an AP-on-a-Stick survey validates your design by answering the following questions:

  1. Does the RF propagate as anticipated?
  2. Does the antenna pattern match what you have in your design?
  3. Do you have the signal coverage you anticipated?

If the answer is no, we have recorded the data necessary to go back to your design and make the necessary adjustments.
